Upgrades starting on Herkimer Street

HAMILTON, ON March 31, 2006 – The City of Hamilton, as part of its ongoing commitment to upgrading infrastructure, will be improving the road, sidewalk and municipal services on Herkimer Street from Bay Street to James Street. Construction is expected to start April 3, 2006 and will take approximately three months to complete. The contract has been awarded to Wesroc.

During construction, vehicular access on Herkimer Street will have lane restrictions. Delays are expected. Local and emergency access will be maintained during these closures. Signs will be posted. Safety is our first concern, for both the public and our workers.

The work is being undertaken to protect the long-term value of the City’s transportation and infrastructure assets and help enhance the quality of life for Hamiltonians. Improvements along this road include: watermain replacement; sewer installation and repair; and road reconstruction. Through watermain replacement the City can maintain its high standards of water quality and increase water volume for both residents and the fire hydrants. Sewer upgrades and repairs are necessary to meet current and future demands. Upgrading road infrastructure on city streets helps to improve traffic flow and ensure safe travel in the future.

Every effort will be made to complete the work in an expeditious manner and to keep any inconvenience to a minimum.

We thank you for your co-operation and support during the construction season.
