– The City of Hamilton will be closing the easterly portion of the Sherman Access, from the Sherman Cut to Kenilworth, for approximately four weeks starting May 8 at 9:00 a.m.
Due to a change in the condition of the escarpment face located at the top of the cut, preventative work needs to be completed to protect the long-term life cycle of the newly constructed retaining wall along the easterly portion of the escarpment crossing. The City maintains the integrity of the escapement on all road crossings through consistently monitoring slides and clearing ditches of rock and debris.
The nature of the work being completed requires a full closure of the easterly portion of the Sherman Access. Safety is our first concern, for both the public and our workers.
A large crane will be required to lower heavy equipment over the side of the escarpment to complete the necessary work.
The work is being undertaken to protect the long-term value of the City’s transportation and infrastructure assets and help enhance the quality of life for Hamiltonians.
Every effort will be made to complete the work in an expeditious manner and to keep any inconvenience to a minimum.
We thank you for your co-operation and support while the necessary work is completed.
