HAMILTON , ON - May 17, 2006 – The City of Hamilton will be celebrating National Public Works Week, May 21 – 27, by recognizing excellence in public service. The week-long celebration hosted by Public Works will feature a variety of activities and displays to create a greater awareness of the programs and services provided that bring our City to life!
“Public Works Week provides us with an opportunity to celebrate our success in service provision,” said Scott Stewart, General Manager of Public Works. “The Department has received both national and international recognition which is due to the talented and skilled professionals delivering everyday services to the City of Hamilton.”
Public Works Week runs from May 21 – 27, with events being held each day throughout the city. They include:
Sunday, May 21 at 9:00 a.m.
The week will kick-off with the Season Opening of Hamilton Community Gardens at Churchill Park Community Garden. Residents are invited to meet fellow gardeners, learn about new initiatives in the community garden program, and enjoy a gardening demonstration by the Hamilton Urban Growers
Tuesday, May 23 to Saturday, May 27 - Mall Displays at Eastgate Square, Jackson Square & Lime Ridge Mall. Waste Management, Operation & Maintenance, Transit, Fleet and Facilities will have various displays set-up in the malls throughout the week
Thursday, May 25, 8:00 a.m. to noon – Transit Bus Roadeo, Bayfront Park
Come out and watch city councilors, senior city management and local media try to complete the designated route.
Thursday, May 25, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. – Water and Wastewater Tri-Annual Public Information Meeting & Equipment Display at the Museum of Steam and Technology
Saturday, May 27
Compost Giveaway, 8:00 a.m., 308 Rymal Road East & Bayfront Park - You are invited to load up on free compost in exchange for a food donation. The City is offering bulk compost only, so be sure to bring a shovel and container.
Wise Water Use School, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. - 22 Veevers Drive – Visit EcoHouse and learn about healthy lawns, rain gardens and wise water use residential retrofits
Harbour West Happenings, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Pier 8 – The official opening of the Hamilton Waterfront Trail extension from Pier 4 to Pier 9
