City Director Named King of the Road

HAMILTON, ON – May 25, 2006 – The reigning champion of the annual Transit Roadeo Challenge defended his title today as the City of Hamilton’s Public Works department put the City’s senior management, Councillors and media to the test behind the wheel of an HSR bus at Bayfront Park. After the scores were tallied, the clear winner of the title 2006 King / Queen of the Road was Jim Harnum, Senior Director of the Water and Wastewater division of Public Works. Ward 9 Councillor Phil Bruckler attained the best politician’s score.

The event, one of several celebrating National Public Works Week, instilled in the participants a new appreciation for all those who drive City buses and DARTS vehicles around Hamilton. National Public Works Week celebrates the thousands of people across North America who provide and maintain the physical services on which each of their communities relies.

“I’m very proud to be a part of the Public Works team in Hamilton,” said Scott Stewart, General Manager of Public Works. “The knowledge, dedication and professionalism that is shown on a day-to-day basis by our employees continues to amaze and impress me. Through their efforts, this department brings to the people of Hamilton the services that bring our City to life!”

The Transit Bus Roadeo is a fun way to provide insight and understanding of one aspect of the many services provided by Transit drivers and Public Works employees.
