Hamilton Water and Wastewater ServicesNow and in the Future

HAMILTON , ON - June 8, 2006 - Learn about the water and wastewater services that are provided by the Public Works Department that bring our City to life! Come out to the Bay Area Restoration Council Annual General Meeting to hear Jim Harnum, Senior Director, Water and Wastewater present on its goals to protect public health, property and the environment.

Strategic planning is an integral part of the planning process and forms the basis for developing water and wastewater programs. The principal objectives of the division are:

  • Provide clean, safe, cost efficient, uninterrupted drinking water services
  • Provide effective, cost efficient, uninterrupted wastewater and storm services
  • Operate a sustainable water and wastewater and storm utility
  • Provide research, innovation and education with respect to water and the environment
  • Maintain a highly motivated, well-trained, customer-focused staff

Hamilton has a high level of quality drinking water and has been recognized for its quality in flavour. In addition, we are committed to ensuring continuous improvement to quality wastewater leaving Hamilton’s wastewater treatment facility. Due to Hamilton’s efforts, partnerships were recently formed with all levels of government to the tune of $75 million dollars. This commitment shows Hamilton’s dedication to fund improvements of the city’s wastewater treatment system and support the clean up of Hamilton Harbour.
