Hamilton's Rain Barrel Pilot Project receives overwhelming response

HAMILTON , ON July 27, 2007 – In just a few days, the City’s Water and Wastewater division has received an overwhelming and positive response to the Catch the Rain Pilot Project. The Project, that offered residents three types of rain barrels at a reduced rate, was initiated by the Public Works Department and is being implemented by Green Venture.

Due to the tremendous response to this pilot project, the limited supply of rain barrels has been sold out on a first come first serve basis. Green Venture will contact residents starting Monday, July 30 to arrange for pick-up or delivery. Due to the overwhelming response, please be patient as Green Venture works diligently to process the orders in a timely manner.

As part of the deal to receive a reduced rate on the rain barrel, residents agreed to participate in surveys in 2007 and 2008. This pilot project will help staff gauge community interest in conservation efforts and help measure the conservation benefits of continuing an ongoing rain barrel rebate program.

“We’re very encouraged at the response to this pilot project,” said Jim Harnum, Senior Director of Water and Wastewater. “This just demonstrates the community’s commitment to conserving Hamilton’s precious water resources.”
