Redevelopment work to begin at Rosedale Park

HAMILTON, ON - January 29, 2009 - The City of Hamilton’s Public Works Department will begin redevelopment works at Rosedale Park, located in the city’s east end. Enjoyed by the community for over 50 years, upgrades to the park will include new baseball diamonds, additional parking space, drainage improvements, relocation of the park’s internal roadway and ecological restoration.

The City’s contractor will begin work at the park next week. To facilitate the addition and relocation of park features, the removal of selected trees is required, with a focus on non-native plant species. Removals will be minimal and restoration will be significant with native grasses, seedlings and the planting of Carolinian species that are compatible with the floodplain forest. The addition of three baseball diamonds will improve the park’s sports facilities, two of which will include lighting for extended hours of play. Neither the creek, nor the existing bocce club facilities will be affected by this project.

Construction at Rosedale Park is anticipated to be complete by September 2009 and the fields will be available for sports programming for the 2010 season. During construction, the access road to the basin will be closed and residents may experience inconveniences such as dust and noise. Every effort will be made to complete this work in an expeditious and responsible manner to keep any inconvenience to a minimum. The Public Works Department thanks the community for their patience and cooperation as we work proactively to revitalize Rosedale Park for the community to enjoy.
