City of Hamilton - Public Health Services
Beach water sampling begins
HAMILTON , ON – May 11, 2009 – The City of Hamilton Public Health Services (HPHS) recreational water sampling program commences next week at eight public beaches along Lake Ontario, Hamilton Harbour and in Conservation areas. Recreational water quality monitoring routinely starts after Victoria Day weekend and lasts until Labour Day weekend.
When sampling results show high amounts of potentially harmful bacteria at a particular beach, signs are posted in close proximity to the bathing area, warning swimmers that the water is unsafe for swimming. The first set of results will be available mid-next week. For the most up-to-date information on beach postings, the public should call the City of Hamilton Public Health Services’ Safe Water Hotline at (905) 546-2189.
