2015 Pan American/Parapan American Games

The Pan Am Games is a major international multi-sport event held every four years for athletes of the 42 Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) member nations. The Pan Am Games are held over 2 weeks followed by the 1 week long Parapan Am Games. Pan Am sports include all of the Olympic summer sports and other non-Olympic events such as baseball, rollersports, water ski/wakeboard and bowling, to name a few. The 2015 Pan and Parapan American Games will feature 48 sports in 17 municipalities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe area, attracting more than 10, 000 athletes and sports officials.


When will the Games be held?

Pan Am Games:    July 10 - 26, 2015
The Parapan Am Games:    August 7-14, 2015

Where are the Pan Am Games being held?
The 2015 Games are being held throughout the Golden Horseshoe with Toronto and Hamilton serving as the primary sites for most competitions. Pan Am events will be held from St. Catharine's to Oshawa and Barrie.

Why is Hamilton involved in the Pan Am Games?
Hamilton’s participation in the 2015 Pan Am Games will provide a legacy for the people of Hamilton and our neighbours across Ontario. The Pan Am Games will help the City to fulfill its new Strategic Plan and the City’s $60 million investment in the Games will bring a number of benefits for all Hamiltonians including:


  • Exposure as a key host city and partner in the 2015 Pan Am Games hosting four of the highest profile Pan Am sports including Track and Field – the premier event for the Games – at Hamilton’s new Pan Am Stadium; Court Volleyball at Copps Coliseum, Track Cycling at the new velodrome; and Soccer at McMaster University’s Ron Joyce Stadium

  • Investment from the provincial and federal governments to build up to $235 million worth of new capital infrastructure

  • New multi-use stadium, velodrome and 50-metre pool at McMaster University

  • Recreational, sport and development centres for community-based activities long after the Games have ended

  • Job creation from new capital facilities

  • Community building through social inclusion and renewed interest in active lifestyles through the promotion of good health and well being

  • Increased tourism sparked by new visitors to Hamilton

  • Spin-off effects from other City investments in public transit, downtown renewal, waterfront development, economic development, tourism, sport and recreation

Hamilton’s vision for the Pan Am Games is one of transformation. That vision begins with our Games legacy and will endure because of it. The mission and vision of our legacy is based on the following goals:

To build sports venues accessible to all Hamilton residents fostering culture, education, health and wellness and entertainment opportunities for young and old alike.

  • To build and renew in areas as diverse as youth sport, elite sport, social and educational programming and economic partnerships

  • To attract the best athletes and helping them deliver world-class performances

  • To engage the community in the spirit and excitement of the Games

How can I get involved with the Games?
The Toronto 2015 Host Corporation will be recruiting nearly 20,000 volunteers in the years leading up to the Games. If you are interested in volunteering for the Games, please visit www.toronto2015.org for the most up-to-date information on the volunteer process.


Who is involved in the Pan Am Games?
The 2015 Pan and Parapan Am Games will involve 17 municipalities throughout the Golden Horseshoe along with the Province of Ontario, the Government of Canada, the Canadian Olympic Committee, the Canadian Paralympic Committee and the Toronto 2015 Host Corporation. All Pan Am partners will have a role to play in hosting the Games with the Host Corporation as the lead organization responsible for delivering the Games.
