CCLC to oversee Hamilton's Keep America Beautiful affiliation

In early 2008, Public Works staff investigated the benefits and opportunities of becoming an affiliate member of Keep America Beautiful and approached the Clean City Liaison Committee to share findings and determine its interest in such an affiliation.

At a ceremony performed by Keep America Beautiful representative Jane Polson (Executive Director of Keep Nebraska Beautiful) at the February 25, 2009 Hamilton City Council meeting, the Clean City Liaison Committee formally assumed the duties of the Board of the newly certified Keep Hamilton Beautiful affiliate.

The Clean City Liaison Committee supports the mission of Keep America Beautiful (KAB) -- to engage citizens to take greater responsibility for improving their community environments. KAB programs serve to change behaviours and improve communities through focus on:

  • Litter Prevention: defining litter, identifying cause, reducing it and organizing clean-ups in communities
  • Waste reduction: reducing the impact of solid waste through integrated programs including source reduction and reuse, recycling and education
  • Beautification: improving visual aspects of our community through programs that beautify, prevention programs such as Graffiti Hurts (graffiti prevention and abatement)
