A Clear Path From Vision to Actions
Building a Strong Foundation was a bold initiative coordinated by the City of Hamilton to implement Vision 2020 by integrating it directly into some of the City's primary decision-making processes: the Growth Related Integrated Development Strategy (GRIDS), the Master Plans for Transportation, Stormwater, Water and Wastewater, the new Official Plans and the Social Development Strategy.

Achieving the Vision
Working towards the goals of VISION 2020 is a community effort, involving initiatives both within the City Corporation and from numerous and diverse community groups.
The City of Hamilton currently has several initiatives underway which will help to achieve the VISION. Planning processes were co-ordinated under the title "Building A Strong Foundation" to ensure that sustainable thinking continues to ensure our vision for the future. The 5 year review of VISION 2020 is being conducted as a basis for other major strategic initiatives. The Official Plans were updated and incorporated Vision 2020 principles and the Nine Directions to Guide Development. GRIDS determined where future growth will occur in the City over the next 30+ years.
The City Action Inventory is a searchable database of City programs and initiatives that implement the goals of VISION 2020.
A number of local community groups are also working toward the goals of VISION 2020 in their daily activities. The goal of a sustainable community can only be achieved if everyone works together.
