• Bernie was born, raised, and educated in Ward 3
• Bernie has three children
• Bernie was first elected to public office as Trustee for Ward 3 at the Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School Board in 1988
• Bernie was elected as City Councillor for Ward 3 in 1991 and was re-elected in 1994, 1997, 2000, 2003, and 2006
• Bernie has a Bachelor of Science Degree (B.Sc.) and Master of Business Administration Degree (M.B.A.) from McMaster University
• Bernie is retired from Dofasco Inc. after twenty-five years of service, where he served as Senior Manager - Market and Product Development
• Bernie was also a Lecturer in Business Management at McMaster University for eighteen years
• Bernie has been involved with many community organizations over the years including: St. John Ambulance, St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation, Catholic Youth Organization, Good Shepherd, Green Growth for Schizophrenia
• Bernie currently represents the residents of Ward 3 on the followin boards and committees:
