Responsibilities in three key areas: Government Relations, Community Partnerships and Charitable Fund Management: To develop strong collaborative partnerships and leverage relationships with key corporate industries and community organizations. To be the public spokesperson for community and government relations in the broader Hamilton/Burlington/Halton areas, as well as manage the The Spectators children’s charitable fund – the Summer Camp Fund. As a marketing communications entrepreneur with strong business development skills, established a successful marketing and communications company/partnership. Achieved sales growth from $150,000 to over $750,000 in the first five years. Provided senior level client services for marketing, research, communications, advertising and sales programs for local, national and international corporate accounts primarily in pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries. Also established the first franchise for D’Vine Wine Gift retail operation in Burlington. Growth within five years to eight locations across Ontario. Additional Volunteer Experience
Interval House Flamborough Women’s Resource Centre (FWRC): As a community activist, spent 2 yrs working with Interval House to develop and establish a women’s resource centre in Waterdown. Successfully secured federal funding with local partners for a rural outreach program dealing with family crisis and domestic violence. The FWRC was opened in downtown Waterdown in Nov. 2009 to help women and young teens living in Flamborough communities. It is the first of it’s kind in Flamborough and is a satellite location of the Hamilton Women’s Centre which operates under the umbrella of Interval House of Hamilton. Community support includes established partnerships with Waterdown High School, Early Years programs, Flamborough Foodbank, local doctors and medical centres, Drummond House~transitional home for women and many, many more.

Waterdown Education (WE) Parent Group: With Waterdown set to increase by 17,000 new residence in the next 5-10 yrs, school accommodation was reaching a crisis situation. The WE parent group was formed in 2008 with representatives from all local area parent councils. As a well known community champion I was asked to help with media relations, assist the two co-chairs, arrange for public meetings and co-ordinating mass attendance at School Board meetings. A formal partnership was formed with the Hamilton School Board which resulted in both parties working together, negotiating a successful plan for four new schools in Waterdown plus a significant expansion of the Waterdown High School.

Charitable Grant Investigator – (6 yrs) with Ontario Trillium Foundation Hamilton Grant Review Board included sector analysis, application evaluations, public consultations, interviews and recommendations. Secured critical funding approvals for numerous community groups in Flamborough, Dundas and Hamilton. Chair committee to develop marketing strategies for community awareness included: presentations to city council, community town halls, workshops for charitable organizations, played a key role in bringing all Hamilton funders together to form a united Funders Group to meet quarterly and review needs in the community.

Hamilton Future Trust Fund Board of Governors - played an active role on the Bd of Gov. developing and writing the strategic guiding principles for a legacy fund and allocation of $137,000,000 Hydro Trust Fund, including mission, vision, criteria and grant application process for community groups.

Successfully facilitated/organized several workshops with key media in both Hamilton/Halton with panel discussions including news editors/anchors of newspaper, TV/Cable, Radio broadcast and PR specialists. In addition, experience as a facilitator of several issue based forums on topics of community interest ie Economic Development, Healthcare Forums etc..

As manager of The Spectator Summer Camp charitable fund, worked in partnership with Hamilton Community Foundation, successfully developed a renewed donor base with corporate and individual donors including agreements with several community partners that increased the number of individual donors to the fund by 35% and donations increased 40% over 3 years.

Personal enjoyment activities
Avid runner, down hill skier, resident of Flamborough/Hamilton, living in Carlisle. Father Walter Luxon (age 89) World War 11 Veteran served in the north Atlantic on HMCS corvettes. Married to Jeff 28 years and mother of Justin (age 21) and Jordan (age 17). Participated as a volunteer on many local Flamborough sports leagues; baseball, soccer, football (Wentworth Football League and Waterdown High School).

2003 – March 2008 - Hamilton Chamber of Commerce Director on the Board of Directors, past Chair Athena Awards Committee, Chair Communications for Business Development Committee and Governmental Affairs Committee. Also authored issue based articles for Panorama Business magazine on Business, Economic Development and Community issues.

2005 – TVCogeco – TV Host “Mainstreet” news show – as news anchor, responsible to identify key issues and conduct on-air interviews with a focus on Flamborough community. Included outreach to organizations in Flamborough, arrange interviews, write scripts and on-air taping of promo’s and newsshow.

2000 - 2006 - Hamilton Gallery of Distinction - President, Board of Directors, Past Chair Selection Committee – review Gallery of Distinction nomination bio’s, develop criteria and principles to select inductees into the Gallery, facilitate committee through a process to select 6 inductees from 30+ nominations for prestigious Gallery Wall. Assist committee to secure sponsors and provide event planning for the gala awards dinner for 600+ held in November each year.

2003 - 2005 Salvation Army Advisory Board - South Central Region – provided resources and advice on marketing, branding and event management to better position the Salvation Army in a total organizational restructuring and amalgamation of region offices.

2001- 2004 - Good Shepherd Harvest Dinner Committee member – participate on committee to host major fundraising dinner for 800+ held in October each year.

1998 – 2000 - Family Curling Programs – Burlington Golf and Curling Club – started a children’s league 6-12 age, organized family bonspiels and ran for 2 yrs.

1992-1999 YMCA Committees and Board of Directors

Member of Board of Directors 1992-1996 served on several task force and committees including:

Chair YMCA Child Advisory Council - established childcare council to review YM childcare programs in 25 daycares. Committee developed anti-bullying behaviour programs for children 6-12 and revised childcare rules/responsibilities for all staff, including new training. New programs and staff training were implemented in all 25 childcare facilities - results were significantly reduced incidents of behaviour problems and staff turnover.

YMCA Parent advisory Committee - established/Chaired first parent committee for YM in the Flamborough Daycare, which was then rolled out to all 25 locations Hamilton/Burlington. Flamborough daycare was located in rented space above the North Wentworth Arena at Hwy 5&6

YM Daycare relocation to new facility - In addition this lead to parents wanting a new YM Daycare facility in Flamborough. Board agreed and we set up a series of public consultations. This evolved into the YM decision to build a completely new YMCA Recreation Facility that would include a new daycare.

Flamborough YMCA Building Committee - participated in negotiation and working committee with the then Flamborough Municipal Government to form the first ever partnership between local govt and YM for a new recreation centre. Land was donated - fundraising built the building - most successful YM to date.

Partners with Youth campaign – Chair for the first Flamborough Annual fundraising campaign

1989-1991 – Hamilton LaBatts Brier – Chair Advertising Committee – committee developed marketing plan, Brier logo, creative design and artwork to produce all advertising materials including, posters, flyers, ads, videos etc. As Chair, worked directly with production house to produce Brier Video, radio and TV commercials.

1992 – 1993 Wentworth Board of Education Parent Council Task Force – Flamborough Representative to develop a plan specific to Wentworth schools around the NDP government initiative to implement Parent Councils in all schools across Ontario. Task force worked over 8 months to review and make recommendations in a report to the Royal Commission to implement parent councils in all Wentworth schools, did public presentations to local Flamborough schools with Director of Ed. Flamborough schools have thriving parent councils to this day in 2008.

1987 - 1989 Mixed Curling League – Burlington Golf and Curling Club

Chaired Organizing Committee for mixed curling league for approx. 200 curlers for 3 seasons, included setting regular game schedules, tournaments, bonspiels and planning member events.
