A strong and varied history of participation in the community as well as in local and provincial levels of government is evident in the subsequent information.
First elected in November of 2000 as Councillor for Ward 4 in the newly amalgamated City of Hamilton.
Strongly committed to the citizens of Ward 4 as a member of City Council and serving actively and/or as a liaison for the following committees:

Core responsibilities include to service job seekers with disabilities in the greater Hamilton area by preparing non-job ready clients for employment through in-depth case management, counseling and referral service prior to providing any placement service.

Responsible for coordinating the referral process, which matches the clients' specific employability, needs with the proper community agency to fulfill those needs.
Active participant on several committees dedicated to people with disabilities: Committee member of the Hamilton-Wentworth Training Board for the Labour Partner Group For Persons With Disabilities, HRDC Employment Expo Committee and Hamilton-Wentworth Service Providers Committee.
Advisor to the Official Opposition Whip and Management Board Critic of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario
Maintain contact with both Queen's Park and local media outlets. Extensive work in preparing news releases and local newspaper columns for the Member. Frequently required to write, understand and exchange information that is more conceptual than factual.
Liaising with other MPP's and staff, other Parties, constituents and constituency office, Government Officials, Federal MP's and staff, advocacy groups and Party Officials. This liaison includes referral, direction, problem solving, stating Party policy, information exchange, obtaining commitments and cooperation.
Coordinating and implementing personnel policies

Queen's Park Office:
Executive Senior Advisor to Hamilton East MPP, Environment Critic and Community and Social Services Critic
Core responsibilities included preparing questions and speech notes for the Member, legislative research before the House or Committees, and coordinating office operations.
Maintained contact with both Queen's Park and local media outlets. Extensive work in preparing news releases and local newspaper columns for the Member. Frequently required to write, understand and exchange information that is more conceptual than factual.

Ministry of Health, Addiction Assessment Services of Brant
Counsellor
Core responsibilities included providing assessment, referral and counseling to individuals suffering from addiction related concerns, educational/employment counseling, group counseling and employee assistance consultation.
Community outreach responsibilities include conducting speaking engagements, seminars and in house counseling for the Brant County Separate and Public School Boards. Also was an appointed member of the Ministry of Attorney General's Drinking and Driving Countermeasures Committee and an active participant in the Ontario counseling networking committee.
Other responsibilities included fundraising, research and policy development, and report writing.
