Wheelchair & Scooter Users
Different make and models of buses have slightly different layouts inside the bus.
On new Flyer buses (models 1100, 1200 and 1400) it is mandatory to use the seatbelt provided in the rear-most wheelchair location because there is no stanchion that would prevent a wheelchair/scooter from tipping.
A decal is present in the wheelchair location on these buses outlining that the seatbelt is mandatory.
An Operator can refuse to operate the bus if they feel that a passenger's safety is at risk. If you do not comply, you could be asked to leave the vehicle.
Proper fare & ID
When boarding an HSR bus, please remember to have your fare handy and your Photo ID Card (if applicable) ready to show the Operator.
If you are using cash or a paper ticket, you can ask for a paper transfer when you board the bus to complete your trip. If you are using PRESTO, a transfer will automatically be programmed on your card. There is a time limit when using the transfer, so please pay close attention to when it expires. At that point, it is invalid.
Remember, our Operators do not carry passes, tickets or cash. Please use exact change when paying a cash fare to avoid overpayment. There are no refunds on overpayment.
The front of the bus can get very congested with passengers boarding, especially with buggies, strollers or packages.
Exit from the centre or rear doors of the bus. This allows new passengers to make their way to the back of the bus and will ensure you will not miss your stop by getting stuck in the crowd.
When the bus stops, wait until the doors are fully open to exit. Be careful not to get scarves, bags or backpacks caught in the door. Step down from the bus onto the curb. If you are travelling with a child, let the child get off the bus ahead of you. Be extra cautious when travelling with a stroller. Step down first then back the stroller off the bus.
Our newest fleet
The HSR received 18 60' articulated CNG buses from New Flyer. They are the first of their kind in Canada and we expect 24 40' CNG NOVA buses in the first part of 2016.
CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) buses can produce up to 25% fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared with diesel or gasoline, and almost no sulphur dioxide or particular matter.
HSR Photo ID cards can be obtained at our HSR Customer Service Centre located at the Hamilton GO Centre - 36 Hunter St. East.
- If you need a Photo ID Card, it will cost $5 plus applicable taxes.
- If you need a Photo ID Replacement Card, the fee is $15 plus applicable taxes.
Secondary Students must bring a Photo ID Card application form from the school if they missed the school's picture day or have lost their ID Card.
PRESTO is available at local Fortino's Grocery stores, Hamilton City Hall, Dundas Municipal Centre and our HSR Customer Service Centre.
