Canada Day July 1, 2015 - What's Open and What's Closed?

All City of Hamilton administrative offices will be closed on Canada Day, Wednesday, July 1, 2015.

For emergencies involving roads, water mains, sewer systems, public health and safety issues, please call 905-546-CITY (2489).

Green Cart, Recycling and Garbage Collection

  • There will be no green bin, blue box, bulk waste, yard waste, or garbage pick-up on Wednesday, July 1.
  • Pick up will occur on the day after your regularly scheduled collection day if it falls on July 1, 2 or 3.
  • Waste must be at the curb by 7 am.

Community Recycling Centres and Transfer Stations will be closed on Wednesday, July 1.

HSR Bus Schedules

  • The HSR will be operating on a Sunday/ Holiday Schedule on Wednesday, July 1.
  • Call HSR information at 905-527-4441 for more details.

ATS - DARTS

  • DARTS will be operating holiday service hours on Wednesday, July 1. All subscription trips on DARTS, with the exception of dialysis, are cancelled for Wednesday, July 1. If passengers need to travel on this day, they must make an advance reservation to do so.
  • ATS customer service will be closed on Wednesday, July 1.

Recreation

Hamilton Civic Museums

  • Dundurn Castle, Whitehern Historic House, Battlefield House Museum, Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology, The Hamilton Military Museum, Fieldcote Museum and Griffin House will be closed, Wednesday, July 1.
  • Dundurn National Historic Site is hosting its annual Canada Day Military Tattoo on the grounds in front of Dundurn Castle at 7 pm.
  • The Hamilton Children’s Museum is currently closed for renovations.

Tourism Hamilton Visitor Information Centre

Ontario Works

  • All Ontario Works offices will be closed on Wednesday, July 1, and will reopen Thursday, July 2 at 8:30 am.
  • The Employment Resource Centre located at 181 Main St. W (Career Development Centre) will be closed on Wednesday, July 1. It will be open to assist you with any employment service needs on Thursday, July 2 at 8:30 am.

Animal Services

  • The Animal Services Shelter will be closed on Wednesday, July 1.
  • For 24-hour Animal Services emergency issues, please call: 905-574-3433.

Property Tax Payments

  • During the holiday, you may submit your property tax payment into a drop box at the rear doors of City Hall, 71 Main Street West or at one of our Municipal Service Centres.
  • All Municipal Service Centres will be closed on Wednesday, July 1, and will reopen on Thursday, July 2.

Parking Violations

Online payments can be made at: www.hamilton.ca/parking

Payment of Parking Violations can be made by mail to the pre-printed address indicated on the parking tag or dropped off into the drop box at the nearest Municipal Service Centre (see addresses above) or Taxation Division (noted above). The Hamilton Municipal Parking System office at 80 Main St. West, at Summers Lane, also accepts payments for parking violations at its drop box.

The Provincial Offences Administration Office at 45 Main St. East, 4th Floor, Suite 408 (John Sopinka) Court House will be closed on Wednesday, July 1

The City of Hamilton is proud to offer a diverse selection of recreational programs at our facilities. In addition to the registered programs, we also offer drop-in classes. Find a variety of swimming, waterfit, drop-in sports and aerobic programs to suit your recreation needs. There is no commitment required for drop-in classes and a variety of payment options are available. For your safety, we encourage you to consult a qualified health care professional before participating in any recreational activity.

Open Gym

An unstructured gym time open to specific ages. Gym equipment will be made available if attendance warrants safe usage. Gym is supervised, but no structured programming is provided.

Teen Gym

An ustructured gym time open to patrons 13 to 18 years of age. Gym equipment will be made available if attendance warrants safe usage. Gym is supervised, but no structured programming is provided.

Family Gym

An ustructured gym time encouraging family fun. Open to parents (guardians) and children. Parents (guardians) must remain in the gym to supervise children at all times. Gym equipment will be made available if attendance warrants safe usage. Gym is supervised, but no structured programming is provided.

Adapted Swim (Special Needs)

A recreational swim for individuals with special needs. Support staff and personal assistants are welcome at no additional cost.

Adult Swim

A recreational swim open to patrons 18 years of age or older. Check with your local facility for diving board availability.

Family Swim

A recreational swim encouraging family fun. Open to parents or guardians (18+), and children of all ages.

Female Swim

A recreational swim emphasizing fun, fitness and relaxation. Open to female patrons 12 years of age or older. Where applicable, viewing windows will be covered for privacy.

Length Swim

An endurance based lane swim for patrons 12 years of age or older. Pools may be partitioned to accommodate slow, medium and fast swimmers.

Mother/ Daughter Swim

A recreatonal swim encouraging family fun. Open to mothers (female guardians) and daughters of all ages. Where applicable, viewing windows will be covered for privacy.

Parent/ Tot Swim

A recreational swim encouraging family fun. Open to parents (guardians 18+) and children 5 years of age or younger. Parents/ guardians must remain in the pool and within arms reach at all times.

Public Swim

A recreational swim for patrons of all ages. Pools may be partitioned to safely accommodate aquatic activities.

Senior Swim

A recreational swim emphasizing fun, fitness and relaxation. Open to patrons 55 years of age or older.

Waterfit

A medium intensity, endurance based workout for patrons 12 years of age and older. Aimed at improving cardiovascular health and muscular strength. Offers simple choreography and the opportunity for increased intensity.

Gentle Waterfit

Shallow gentle water exercise classes to music available during scheduled times for participants ages 12 and above. Workouts improve cardiovascular health in addition to increasing flexibility, muscular strength and toning at a gentle pace for those individuals with muscular and skeletal difficulties. All fitness instructors are qualified to teach these classes.

Adult Figure Skate Practice

Practice your edges, crossovers, turning and improve overall strength and endurance; for all adult level figure skaters. No jumps or lifts permitted during this skate.

Adult Shinny

Pick-up hockey for individuals 18 years and older. Come out to your local arena and join pick-up teams for a fun game of hockey. Goalies are free. CSA approved helmets must be worn and full equipment is recommended. Non contact rules apply.

Adult Skate

18 years and older. Come and enjoy some fun skating at your local arena. CSA approved helmets are recommended.

Family Skate

Adults 18 years + and children up to a limit of five children per adult can enjoy skating at your local arena. No additional equipment permitted. (i.e. hockey sticks, skating aids, etc.) CSA approved helmets are recommended.

Parent & Tot Skate

Skating for parents accompanied by children who are five years of age and under. Child is recommended to wear a CSA approved hockey helmet. Preschoolers are permitted with or without a skating aid on the ice.

Parent & Tot Mini Skills Development

Children five years of age and under can focus their attention on having fun developing their hockey skills. Preschoolers are premitted a stick and puck only. CSA approved hockey helmet with face mask is mandatory. Hockey equipment is optional. Parents are required to participate but no sticks are permitted. Ice may be shared with Parent & Tot Skate Program.

Public Skate

Come and enjoy some fun skating at your local arena. CSA approved helmets recommended.

Senior Shinny

Pick-up hockey (55 years and older). Come to your local arena and join pick-up temas for a game of hockey. Goalies are free. CSA approved helmets must be work and full equipment is recommended. Non contact rules apply.
