Stray Cat Adoptions

The City does not have a stray cat adoption program.

We make every effort to find a stray cat’s owner. If a cat is not claimed within 72 hours, it is assessed by the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA.

The SPCA offers a stray cat that is not claimed through their adoption program. If the SPCA doesn't wish to claim the cat for their adoption program, then Animal Services will give the animal to a rescue organization to be re-homed based on their:

  • Temperament
  • Behaviour
  • Health

Many of these rescue organizations are non-profit, charitable groups that are primarily run by volunteers. Without these adoption programs, many of the animals that come into Animal Services would not have the opportunity to find the forever homes that they deserve.
