I've lost my pet, what should I do?

If your dog or cat roams from home, call Animal Services at 905-574-3433 right away to tell them your pet is missing.. 

What else can I do?

  • Register with Helping Lost Pets and post a free lost report
  • Check with your neighbours to see if they have seen your pet
  • If your pet is micro-chipped, verify your contact information with the microchip company
  • Visit our shelter on a regular basis, or send a friend or family member if you can’t
  • Post flyers in your neighbourhood
I’ve found someone else’s pet, what should I do?

If you find a dog or cat who has wandered from their home, call Animal Services at 905-574-3433 to report it.

What else can I do?

  • Post a free found report on Helping Lost Pets
  • Check with your neighbours to see if they are missing their pet
  • File a “found” report with  animal shelters near where you found the animal
  • Post flyers in your neighbourhood and ask your neighbours to help spread the word
Can I surrender my pet to the City?

We accept alive or dead pets; however, you must know that:

  • if you surrender your pet to us, you give up all rights to the pet and are not entitled to any further information about the animal
  • there is no guarantee that your pet will be adopted
  • we recommend that you attempt to find a caring home for your pet if you are unable to keep it and only consider surrendering your pet to us as your last option
I've found a dead animal, what should I do?

If you find a dead animal, call Animal Services at 905-574-3433 to report it.
