Claiming Your Pet from the Shelter

To claim your pet from the shelter, you must:

  • Show government identification with your current address
  • Pay the fees for each day we care for your pet at the shelter
  • Bring a leash or carrier to take your pet home
  • Not touch the other animals so that you do not spread a disease

* Reduced rates are for people who are more than 65 years of age or get a government disability pension. Proof is required to get the reduced rate.

Other fees

We make every effort to make sure your pet is healthy and safe. We may have a veterinarian look at and/or treat your animal. You must pay veterinary costs.

Livestock evaluations

When dogs, coyotes or foxes kill farm animals, the City may refund the owner for the cost of the farm animal at no expense to the farmer. The farmer must have a registered farm.
