New Cases

Importance

This measures the number of Hamilton families applying for Ontario Works each month.

Story behind the numbers

New cases are tracked monthly and reported by the Province.  A change in the rate of new applications reflects changes in the labour market, changes in family situations, immigration and the financial impact of precarious employment on individuals and their families.

Performance improvements

A decrease in the number of Ontario Works applications reflects a positive upward trend in the labour market, individuals securing an alternate source of income, family reunification etc.
