To assist in the planning of both short and long term paramedic requirements that meet the needs of visitors and residents of the City of Hamilton while maintaining the legislative requirements of the Ambulance Act. This also allows for information to be compared with other municipalities to assist in planning.
Story behind the numbers
HPS has seen an average increase in events of 4% per year from 2013 to 2017. However, the current forecast for 2018 indicates a marginal increase over 2017. With a population growth of 3.2% and an increase of 13.8% of residents ≥ 65 years between 2011 and 2016 (Statistics Canada), it is anticipated that increases in paramedic events will continue to rise in the future as a result of these factors.
HPS will continue public education activities to build awareness on when to call 911 for paramedic services and when to engage the services of community health partners.
