Notice of Study Completion & Public Review Period

The City of Hamilton has completed a Schedule 'B' Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) study to determine the preferred location for a new septage waste haulage receiving station (SWHRS). A number of areas were evaluated as part of the study.

The preferred site is located on Dartnall Road between Rymal Road East and Twenty Road. The new SWHRS will consist of:

  • a building housing septage receiving equipment including piped connections for septage haulage trucks
  • odour control equipment
  • spill containment area
  • outdoor water connection
  • motion activated outdoor lighting
  • perimeter fencing
  • 24-hour card access
  • paved area for truck turnarounds
  • underground sanitary sewer connection

Public review for comments

A Project File report describing the planning process followed and the conclusions has been completed and has been placed on public record for a review period starting June 21, 2019 and ending July 22, 2019.

In the event concerns regarding this project cannot be resolved through discussions with the project team, a person may request the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks make an order for the project to comply with Part II of the Environmental Assessment Act (known as a Part II Order), which elevates the status of the project to a higher level of assessment. Requests must be received by the Minister at the address below during the public review period by July 22, 2019, with a copy to the City of Hamilton Clerk and Project Manager above. Part II Order requests must be made in writing using the “Part II Order” request form (form 012-2206E) that can be found at or by contacting a member of the project team. The City of Hamilton initiated a Class Environmental Assessment study to determine the preferred location for a new septage waste haulage receiving station in Hamilton to accept sewage from residential, commercial and industrial sources from areas that are not currently serviced by the City’s sanitary sewer system.

This study includes public, review agency, and First Nations consultation, evaluation of alternatives, assessment of the impacts of the proposed works, and identification of measures to mitigate any adverse impacts.
