    City of Hamilton
71 Main Street, Hamilton 6th Floor
    Hamilton, Ontario, L8P 4Y5
    Attention: Paul Toffoletti

Application fee: You will need to pay the $6240 fee when you submit the application. Fees are charged once per property.

If the application is accepted, the applicant will receive a confirmation notice letter in the mail.

When we receive your request:

  • We will circulate the names to all relevant agencies including fire, police and paramedics.
  • If the proposed names are acceptable to all parties, we will add the proposed street names to our list of reserved or held street name directory for use by the applicant of the names on the Draft Plans of Subdivision.
  • If the proposed names are not acceptable by any single party, you must submit alternative names.

Street renaming

If you would like to rename a local street you must:

  • Make all effort to avoid changing the name of the street in question
  • Consider renaming a street only when a duplication of the name occurs within the City of Hamilton or when renaming would provide a general improvement to the City’s administration of essential services and in the public’s interest

Street names should be selected from a list of names maintained by the City’s Planning and Economic Development department and must adhere to the Street Name Policies, Guidelines, and Requirements for the selection of a street name.

To submit a request for a streetname to be renamed you will need to:

  • Complete the Street Name Request Form (PDF, 36 KB)
  • Provide a sketch of the street and lands to be named
  • Create a petition with the name, address and signatures of 80% of the assessed property owners or residents who reside or own property which fronts on or is abutting the subject land

Submit the form, supporting documents and the fee by mail or in person to:
