
Transit Oriented Development Guidelines
The Transit Oriented Development Guidelines promote development and support larger transit investments such as rapid transit.
The purpose of the guidelines is to:
- Illustrate what and how development should proceed to encourage a better integration of land use and transportation
- Serve as a user-friendly guide showing the components that should be part of developments and redevelopments
- Encourage better development in communities to enhance the liveability and quality of life for residents
The guidelines have been prepared in two separate volumes:
Volume 1 - Background paper
The background paper outlines the:
- Principles of Transit Oriented Development
- Common practices or elements of Transit Oriented Development
- Summary of the challenges and opportunities associated with implementing Transit Oriented Development
- Set of implementation tools and strategies to facilitate the application of Transit Oriented Development in Hamilton

The guidelines will service as an implementation tool by:
- Showing illustrations of how the principles of Transit Oriented Development may appear in practice. Sample sites were chosen to provide examples of how Transit Oriented Development may look in Hamilton
