The City of Hamilton encourages you to participate in our “Five Days to Emergency Preparedness” awareness campaign. By taking a few simple steps today, you can become better prepared to face a range of emergencies. Help yourself and your family get informed and get ready with these tips:
Five days to emergency preparedness

Day 1: Make a plan
Learn what disasters can happen in your area
- Identify meeting places
- Make a family communication plan
- Make a plan for your pets

Day 2: Get emergency supplies
Gather supplies in an accessible place
- Purchase and store a 72 hour supply of water for your household
- Buy a 3 day supply of food for your household

Day 3: Prepare for unique needs
Talk with family to identify unique needs
- Consider those with disabilities

Day 4: Be informed, Sign up for alerts
Learn about the Province of Ontario’s Public Alerting system and sign up to receive alerts
