Fire Services and Fees

The Hamilton Fire Department provides a number of inspection related services, which are fee based. The services and associated fees listed below are some of the most commonly requested services. All fees listed below include HST.

Fire Response Report: Fee $43.70

If the Hamilton Fire Department assisted in an emergency situation at your property, a report detailing the response is completed once firefighters return to the station. If you require a copy of that report for reasons such as investigative, insurance, or financial purposes, you can get a copy from our Fire Prevention office located at 55 King William Street, Hamilton.

Before we can give you a copy of fire response reports they need to be reviewed for compliance with Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. These reports are generally available while you wait, however, in cases where reports are not immediately available, they can be mailed or faxed to you. If you request a copy of fire response report you will have to provide identification.   

File Search for Outstanding Work Orders: Fee $68.35

For those purchasing, selling, insuring or re-mortgaging a property, it is often required that a search be made to identify if there are any outstanding orders against the property. Typically law firms or financial institutions complete these searches. However, citizens may also request a search of a property. If you are requesting a file search of a property of which you are not the owner, a document signed by the current owner of the property authorizing the release of information must accompany the reqst.

Private Home Day-Care Inspection: Fee $72.65

The Hamilton Fire Department conduct inspections of properties for Private Home Day Care use. This inspection will ensure compliance with all applicable fire safety regulations and as a minimum, ensure there is an operational ULC listed smoke alarm installed on every floor level of the building and outside of all sleeping areas. It also ensures that there is a minimum ULC listed 2A10BC rated portable fire extinguisher mounted in the kitchen area.

Establishment of a Fire Route: Fee $261.65

Many shopping plaza’s, townhouse surveys, condominium complexes, industrial sites and other private property may require a fire access route to permit access by fire department vehicles in emergency situations. The Hamilton Fire Department will conduct an inspection of your property and determine the required access route and necessary signage. Once installed, your fire access route will be registered which will then permit enforcement to take place.  

Fee payment

Payment of all fees is to be by cash or cheque only. Payments by cheque are to be made payable to the City of Hamilton.
