HAMILTON, ON - March 30, 2017 - An event will be held to celebrate the renaming of the City of Hamilton’s Lawfield Arena to the Bill Friday Lawfield Arena. Media are invited to join his Worship Mayor Fred Eisenberger, Councillor Tom Jackson, Councillor Donna Skelly and Steve Staios, President of the Hamilton Bulldogs, along with City of Hamilton officials and members of the Friday family.

Bill Friday was a well-known Hamiltonian with over 19 years officiating ice hockey, 12 years in the National Hockey League (NHL) and 7 years in the World Hockey Association (WHA). During his career, he refereed 1,425 major league games, and he was the only referee to work both the Stanley Cup finals in the NHL and the Avco Cup finals in the WHA. A local Hamilton hockey legend Friday was inducted into the Hamilton Sports Hall of Fame in 2010. He was also elected to the WHA Hall of Fame in 2012.
