Statement by Mayor Fred Eisenberger on the passing of John Copland

HAMILTON, ON - It is with sadness that we share the passing of former councillor for Stoney Creek, John Copland.

John served as a Stoney Creek councillor for 32 years beginning in 1965. In addition to his extensive community service career, John was a retiree of Frost Steel & Wire and a proud veteran. John served in the Canadian Navy during WWII, including D-Day, from 1941-45.

John passed away peacefully in his 100th year with his family by his side. He leaves behind his daughter, Arlene, step-children, Lorraine and Gregg, along with his two sisters and several nieces and nephews.

The flag at City Hall will be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday, August 21. Funeral Service will be held at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 24.
