COVID-19 Update: Reopenings at the City of Hamilton

HAMILTON, ON - Late last week, the province shared a three-step plan to gradually lift COVID-19 restrictions later this month based on key public health and health system indicators showing signs of stabilization. In alignment with the province and in the absence of concerning changes to our health care indicators or public health trends, the City of Hamilton is sharing its plan to reopen some municipal services, programming and facilities later this month. City of Hamilton introduces COVID-19 vaccination mandate for all City employees

HAMILTON, ON – The City of Hamilton is implementing a policy that requires all City employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by May 31, 2022. Hamilton’s COVID-19 vaccination program offers walk-in option at FirstOntario Centre for second doses

HAMILTON, ON – The Hamilton healthcare partners continue to make progress in vaccinating members of the community who fall into the Province’s COVID-19 Vaccination Framework. We are pleased to announce that to date, we have administered approximately 656,233 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Upwards of 75.3 per cent of Hamiltonians over the age of 18 have received a vaccine to date with 55.4 per cent having completed their vaccine series. In addition, 62 per cent of youth ages 12-17 have received a first dose to date and 25.2 have completed their vaccine series.

Changes to Hamilton’s COVID-19 testing model

HAMILTON, ON - With a continued decline in daily COVID-19 cases and outbreaks, the need for COVID-19 testing has also declined. Following a decreasing demand for testing, and direction from the Ontario Health West to consolidate symptomatic testing, Hamilton will be scaling back the number of testing and assessment centres in the city in the coming weeks, ensuring the continued ability to increase testing if required in future.

City launches online memorial to pay tribute to residents who passed away of COVID-19

HAMILTON, ON – Today, the City of Hamilton is launching an online presence to memorialize Hamilton residents who have lost their lives due to COVID-19. The Hamilton Remembers: COVID-19 virtual memorial allows family members of those who have passed away from COVID-19 to submit a brief message and photo to pay tribute to their loved one. The message and photo will be posted on the City’s website at www.hamilton.ca/covid-virtual-memorial.

Public Health Services declares COVID-19 outbreak at Rebecca Towers apartment complex

May 4 2021

HAMILTON, ON – City of Hamilton Public Health Services has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Rebecca Towers (235 Rebecca Street), a 164 unit 17-storey apartment building in Hamilton. Currently there are 28 active COVID-19 cases, and a total 55 cases and one death having been identified since the middle of March. These cases are spread across 17 different units on 10 separate floors. We appreciate how concerning this is for the residents of this building and the impact COVID-19 is having on their tight-knit community.
