Cold Weather Alert effective overnight tonight January 10, 2022

HAMILTON, ON – The Medical Officer of Health for the City of Hamilton is issuing a Cold Weather Alert effective tonight, January 10, 2022.  A Cold Weather Alert is issued when current or anticipated weather conditions are at or below minus 15 degrees Celsius or minus 20 with wind chill. This alert will remain in effect until a cancellation notice is issued.

Hamilton Public Health Services investigating two suspected cases of COVID-19 Omicron variant

HAMILTON, ON – This morning, the Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health announced that two Hamilton residents who recently returned from travelling to South Africa tested positive for COVID-19 and are awaiting results of whole genome sequencing related to the Omicron variant. City of Hamilton Public Health Services is awaiting these results from the Public Health Ontario Laboratory expected in the coming days. City of Hamilton Public Health Services is conducting case and contact management and the two individuals and their case contacts are self-isolating.

GTHA Mayors and Chairs condemn protests targeting hospitals

HAMILTON, ON - Today, Mayors and Chairs from the 11 largest municipal governments across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area held their regular weekly meeting to discuss the ongoing response to COVID-19 across the region. The Mayors and Chairs discussed the ongoing work underway to drive up vaccination rates across the GTHA. All municipalities are committed to supporting vaccination efforts to reach the province's target of 90 per cent of eligible residents being fully vaccinated.

Increased risk for West Nile Virus in Hamilton

HAMILTON, ON - A batch of mosquitoes trapped this week in Hamilton tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). These are the first WNV positive mosquitos for Hamilton this year, prompting Hamilton’s Medical Officer of Health to move the WNV risk from moderate to high. Residents are reminded protect themselves against mosquito bites and to remove standing water from private property to prevent mosquito breeding.

Hamilton Public Health Services encouraging young people to roll up their sleeves with back-to-school just over six weeks away

HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton healthcare partners continue to make progress in vaccinating members of the community who fall into the Province’s COVID-19 Vaccination Framework. We are pleased to announce that to date, we have administered approximately 700,857 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Upwards of 76.3 per cent of Hamiltonians over the age of 18 have received a vaccine to date with 62.1 per cent having completed their vaccine series. In addition, 64.5 per cent of youth ages 12-17 have received a first dose to date and 39.1 per cent have completed their vaccine series.

HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton healthcare partners continue to make progress in vaccinating members of the community who fall into the Province’s COVID-19 Vaccination Framework. We are pleased to announce that to date, we have administered approximately 607,787 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Upwards of 74.5 per cent of Hamiltonians over the age of 18 have received a vaccine to date with 48.1 per cent having completed their vaccine series. In addition, 60.2 per cent of youth ages 12-17 have received a first dose to date.

Heat Warning notification for the City of Hamilton July 5, 2021

HAMILTON, ON - The Medical Officer of Health for the City of Hamilton has initiated a Heat Warning beginning on July 5, 2021.  Heat Warnings stay in effect until they are cancelled or escalated to an Extended Heat Warning. Hot and humid conditions Monday through Tuesday. Maximum daytime temperatures from 31 to 34 degrees Celsius are expected with humidex values near 40. Overnight low temperatures are forecast to fall to only 21 to 23 degrees, providing little relief from the heat.
