HAMILTON, ON - It is with sadness we learned of the passing of former City of Hamilton ward two alderman, Vince Agro. During his time on council, Vince was instrumental in the construction of Hamilton Place and the twining of Hamilton with Racalmuto, Sicily. He received a political award, alongside other awards for business, labor, media and architecture. A gifted pianist and lover of Opera, Vince would often be the entertainment during breaks at committee and council.

HAMILTON, ON - In partnership with the federal government, the Province of Ontario today released the first round of emergency operating funding for municipalities as part of the Safe Start Agreement. For Ontario municipalities, the agreement will provide up to $4 billion in funding from the provincial and federal governments. This funding is essential as municipalities continue to deliver public services including transit, public health, child care, housing and social services during the COVID-19 emergency.

HAMILTON, ON - Earlier this year, the Province’s citizen-appointed Hamilton Transportation Task Force recommended Hamilton’s Light Rail Transit (LRT) project as the number one transit recommendation for the City of Hamilton.  The LRT project is the most-studied transit project in our city’s history, and we are now turning our minds to restarting our economy. The LRT will create thousands of jobs, economic uplift, increase affordable housing, cut CO2 emissions drastically and will be a legacy transportation project for our city.

HAMILTON, ON - Today, Mayors and Chairs from the 11 largest municipal governments across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area held their regular weekly meeting to discuss the ongoing transition from Stage 2 to Stage 3. While parts of the GTHA remain in Stage 2, other parts have moved into Stage 3. The Mayors and Chairs shared what their specific municipalities are experiencing and how they are taking action to continue to stop the spread of COVID-19.

HAMILTON, ON - Today, Mayors and Chairs from across Ontario, represented by the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, the Mayors and Regional Chairs of Ontario, and the Large Urban Mayors’ Caucus of Ontario, met to discuss the COVID-19 financial emergency.  Ontario municipalities are speaking with one voice to deliver one important message: Our residents cannot wait any longer. To protect municipal services, we need immediate provincial and federal support to cover lost revenue and additional costs caused by the COVID-19 crisis.

HAMILTON, ON - Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger has tested negative for COVID-19. The testing was done out of an abundance of caution after the Mayor experienced several symptoms the morning of June 25, 2020. The Mayor would like to thank everyone who sent well wishes over the past few days and would also like to remind the public that this virus is in our community and we must remain vigilant in maintaining physical distancing, practicing good hygiene such as handwashing and adhering to all public health recommendations.

HAMILTON, ON - With the province’s recent announcement allowing Hamilton to enter Stage 2 of its phased reopening, staff have been preparing to safely reopen the city’s spray pads and pools. I am pleased to share that 65 of the City’s 68 spray pads will be turned on by this Friday, June 19. Community members can find their nearest spray pad by visiting www.hamilton.ca/spraypads The following indoor and outdoor pools will open the week of Monday, July 6:

HAMILTON, ON - I am pleased with today’s announcement from Premier Ford that moves the City of Hamilton into Stage 2 of the provincial government's reopening framework. The province is allowing Hamilton to move into Stage 2 of the framework as of Friday, June 19. As a result, we will be working on a methodical reopening, in line with Provincial guidelines, in order to keep everyone safe and not undo the progress we have made so far. I ask residents to please have patience as we work to make sure our reopening is safe and successful.
