Animal Services Profile

Hamilton Animal Services ensures the safe co-existence between the public and animals, both domestic and wildlife. This service includes:

  • Animal Rescue Operations - work with multiple organizations across Ontario to find adoption placements for animals that are suitable for re-homing.
  • Carcass Pick-Up and Disposal - picking up of pet and wildlife carcasses and disposal.
  • Cremation Services - after your pet has passed away, you can send them for cremation and choose whether you wish to have the ashes returned.
  • Dog Licensing - issuing, enforcing and tracking dog licences.
  • Education and Enforcement of the Responsible Pet Ownership and Feeding Wild life By-laws, and  other Provincial Legislation such as the Dog Owners’ Liability Act.
  • Euthanasia Services - when you need to plan the end of life for your pet.
  • Investigate dog bites and animal incidents that may put the public at risk. 
  • Livestock Evaluations - investigating farm animal losses to wild animals, preparing claims and submission to Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
  • Lost and Found Pet Services - maintaining, posting and guidance for owners with lost pets.
  • Pound - tracking of all animals into shelter and outcomes.
  • Rabies Confinement Centre - confining animals to be monitored by Public Health for signs and symptoms of rabies.
  • Stray Animal Impound - picking up stray animals for public and animal safety.
  • Tracking and Animal Handling for Rabies Suspect Animals
  • Owner Surrender - when you can no longer keep your pet after attempts to rehome.
  • Wildlife - place injured animals with Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator’s for recovery to then be released.
