Cash, Tickets and Passes

Beginning September 6, 2020, HSR will return to weekday service at a summer level on most routes. View our Schedule and timetables

Have a question about HSR's response to COVID-19? Visit our FAQ for Transit Customers.

To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, customers are required to wear a non-medical mask on public transit. This extra step can help protect others in spaces where physical distancing can be hard to maintain.

The Customer Service counter at 36 Hunter Street Go Station (ONLY) has resumed normal business hours: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday for customers to renew monthly passes, purchase and reload PRESTO cards and to purchase tickets. Our Customer Service Desk at Mountain Transit Centre (2200 Upper James St.) will remain closed to the public until further notice.

HSR has resumed fare collection and front-door boarding for customers. Operator compartment bio-shields have been installed as an additional measure to protect operators and customers.

Discontinuation of paper tickets and passes

HSR will discontinue the paper monthly passes on October 31, 2020.  Paper tickets will stop being sold on October 31, 2020.  We will continue to accept paper tickets until December 31, 2020.

Tickets with an expiry date of August 31, 2020
If you have HSR paper tickets that have an expiry date of August 31, 2020, these tickets will remain valid until December 31, 2020.  The value of these tickets remain the same and you do not need to pay any additional cash fare when using these tickets.  These tickets will continue to be sold at participating vendors until October 31, 2020.

Paying your fare

HSR bus drivers do not handle money, tickets or passes. You need to do one of the following:

  • Put your fare directly into the farebox beside the driver. Coins go in the left slot and tickets and bills go in the right. If you are paying with cash you must have exact change.
  • Show the driver your pass when you get on the bus.
  • Tap your PRESTO card on the PRESTO device.

Customers are able to use direct debit as a form of payment to buy bus tickets, monthly passes, day passes, Taxi Scrip, DARTS and senior's annual passes. There is a minimum $5 purchase required. Customers should be aware that there are no refunds permitted through direct debit and there are no cash back privileges being offered.

HSR accepts cash, debit, MasterCard and Visa for all purchases over $5.

Fare fraud
An HSR driver may take away any pass, ticket or Identification card if he/she suspects fraudulent activity.
