Recreation Leader Training

Effective Thursday, September 23, 2021: Vaccine Verification

As a condition of employment you are required to provide proof that you are fully vaccinated or provide proof of valid exemption satisfactory to the employer prior to your start date. You must acknowledge and agree to comply with any future vaccine policy requirements as an ongoing condition of employment at the City of Hamilton.

Leader in Training

Start on your journey to become a successful Leader in Training. This 35 hour instructional and up to 40 hour placement with hands on experience focuses on the key attributes and skills that youth must know in order to successfully lead recreation programs and care for young participants. This program focuses on:

  • leadership skills
  • working with a team
  • program planning
  • age appropriate programs

HIGH FIVE – Principles of Healthy Child Development

This one-day training will help front-line leaders (anyone working with children aged six to 12) improve the quality of programs.  It provides in depth training in the HIGH FIVE Principles of healthy child development so front-line leaders understand what they need to do to ensure each child’s social, emotional and cognitive needs are met.  Leaders learn activities and gain knowledge, tips and resources to enhance their programs as well as their relationships with children and other staff members.  This course is for ages 13 and over. Visit RecConnect for course offerings.

  • moderate to vigorous physical activity

Standard First Aid & CPR C

The Standard First Aid course provides you with in-depth training and understanding of all aspects of first aid and CPR. You will develop skills to help you handle the medical and legal aspects of first aid treatment, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, abdominal and chest injuries, burns and medical emergencies. The course includes CPR-C certification and Automated External Defibrillation (AED). It is recognized by Ontario’s Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. Visit RecConnect for course offerings.
