Hamilton Public Library

Hamilton Public Library has 23 branches and two Bookmobiles. It connects the community to many resources and services. Library cards are free to anyone living, working or studying in Hamilton and allow access to the library’s physical and digital collections and computer and wireless services. You can apply for a library card at the information desk at any library location.

Community borrowers are residents of the Hamilton area who are not affiliated with Mohawk College and who are not enrolled in a private or public educational institution. Residents of Hamilton can borrow all library items with the exception of the:

  • reserve collection
  • videos
  • materials with short-term loan periods
  • magazines
  • reference items

You can apply for a Community Borrower card at the customer service desk at any library location. There is a $20 annual fee.

Residents of the Hamilton area who are not affiliated with McMaster University who have a regular or continuing need for research and scholarly materials can apply for an external borrower card. There is an annual fee of $60 for the card and borrowing limitations apply. Application forms are available at any McMaster Library Services Desk or the Circulation Desk in the Health Sciences Library.

The library is the leading provider of information to physicians, hospital staff and learners in their pursuit of excellence in education, clinical care, research, and community service. The library participates in resource sharing among the libraries of McMaster University, as well as teaching and community hospitals in the area.

A collection of Canadian and British case reports, digests and treatises, loose-leaf services, Canadian statutes (federal and provincial), selected journals, CLE materials and government publications for the use of members of the Hamilton Law Association, their students and staff, and visiting lawyers.
