Social Insurance Numbers
The Government of Canada uses Social Insurance Numbers (SINs) to keep track of all Canadian workers. You must have a SIN to work in Canada.
Applying within Canada
To apply for your Social Insurance Number you must go in person to a Service Canada point of service. Find a Service Canada Office near you.

To apply for your Social Insurance Number from outside of Canada:
- Download an application form from our website, or order the form by phone at 1-800-206-7218 (select Option "3").
- Send us your completed application and original proof of identity documents, photocopies are not accepted to:

Employment Services
There are several employment service providers in Hamilton. Only individuals who are eligible to work in Canada are eligible for one-on-one counselling and Employment Ontario programs. Anyone is welcome to use the resource centres. These services are generally available at no cost to users.
The Workforce Information Network (WIN) contains a directory of employment services. WIN offers information on services that assist job seekers and the community to discover local employment, training, and upgrading programs.
