Neighbourhood Hoops Program

Providing youth the opportunity to participate in basketball programming in their neighbourhood

Now in its third year, the Neighbourhood Hoops Program is designed to give every single child or youth the opportunity to learn the game of basketball. Over 500 youth ages, 9 to 14 have participated in the skills-based basketball development program citywide.

Free 20 Week Skill Development Program will have children and youth learning basketball skills from certified coaches in a fun and engaging environment through a variety of games and activities.  Each week players will participate in 30 minutes of skill development and 30 minutes of organized 3 on 3 games. Program participants are divided into age groups and by gender: Grade 4, 5, 6 & Grade 7, 8, 9.

Participants receive:

  • Trip to McMaster Marauders Game on February 10, 2018
  • A basketball
  • A drawstring knapsack
  • A water bottle
  • Basketball jersey
  • Hoops Extravaganza Finale on June 16, 2018

Volunteer Opportunities

High school students are encouraged to acquire their volunteer hours with the Neighbourhood Hoops Program.

 Volunteer positions include:

  • Score Keeper
  • Program Facilitator (supporting head instructors)
  • Referee

Complete the 2018 Neighbourhood Hoops Volunteer Application Form (PDF, 286 KB)

All volunteers will receive:

  • 40 volunteer hours towards requirement for High School graduation (if applicable)
  • Special coaches training facilitated by Canada Basketball
  • Invitation to the Hoops Finale
  • Criminal Reference Check Required – fee covered by Hoops team
