Improving our Parks

Hamilton Peace Garden

The Hamilton Peace Garden is located in the south-western corner of Hamilton City Hall grounds bordered by Hunter St. West and Bay St. South.  The park improvement project, titled Hamilton Peace Garden Upgrades, is the phase 2 portion of a concept plan that will see the completion of the Peace Garden area.  The upgrades include an extension of the walkway to provide an accessible access from both Bay St. S. and Hunter St. W., new flower beds with an irrigation system, white daffodil bulbs, the placement of the Interfaith Group commemorative stone monument, a parkette name sign, and an interpretive panel.    The installation of phase 2 is planned for 2020.

Background

The first phase of the Peace Garden was constructed in 2012 to celebrate Peace and Faith in the City of Hamilton.  It features a “Peace” Pole, oval plaza with benches and access walkway.  This Peace Pole is a symbol that joins more than 200,000 that have been placed around the world in close to 200 countries.  A Peace Pole is an internationally-recognized symbol of the hopes and dreams of the entire human family, standing vigil in silent prayer for peace on earth.   The garden area includes white daffodils that bloom in spring time as a symbol of peace.  It is placed in an area that has other memorials.
