Camp Kidaca Preschool: Participants must be at least 4 years old at start date of program to register. Camp Kidaca & Camp Kidaca Youth: Participants must be the age specified by December 31, 2017 to register. 

Huntington Park Recreation Centre is closed for renovations this summer. Camp Kidaca will be back in 2018 and better than ever. Additional spaces have been opened at surrounding locations. 

This program is designed to introduce preschool campers to a full-day camp experience with a lower staff-to-camper ratio (8:1). Preschool campers will participate in age appropriate activities, with a focus on cooperative games, friendships, gross motor skill development, songs, circle time, stories and crafts. Campers stay on site all day and enjoy weekly special activities, such as outdoor water play (sprinklers and wading pools) and guest presenters. Preschool and Kidaca camp integrate programming where appropriate.  Participants must be able to use the washroom independently. Participants must be at least 4 years old at start date of program. 

  • Fee: $115.67 per week or $92.53 (weeks 1 & 6), T-shirt included
  • Hours: Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. Organized camp activities start at 9 am and end at 4 pm.
  • Routine: Each camp and camper group will have a unique routine specific to their facility and amenities.
In general, a typical day at camp will look like this:
  • 8 to 9 am: Drop off at camp, group activities and free play
  • 9 to 9:45 am: Welcome, cooperative games, songs
  • 9:45 to 10:30 am: Snack and water break with story time
  • 10:30 to 11:30 am: Active games outside
  • 11:30 to 12:30 pm: Lunch
  • 12:30 to 1:30 pm: Craft time, creative play
  • 1:30 to 2:30 pm: Water games outside
  • 2:30 to 3:30 pm: Snack and water break, quiet games
  • 3:30 to 4 pm: Goodbye circle, songs
  • 4 to 5 pm: Group activities and free play, picked up from camp

Theme day
Each week of camp will have a planned theme day on Fridays. Campers will be encouraged to join staff in dressing up and participating in a variety of special events.

Camp Kidaca is our most popular day camp program and is a great way to spend the summer holidays in a safe, supervised, and fun camp environment. Campers will participate in a variety of age appropriate activities, including daily swimming, active games, sports, songs, cooperative games, crafts and creative time, songs special events and a weekly trip.

  • Fee: $139 per week or $111.20 (weeks 1 & 6), T-shirt included
  • Hours: Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. Organized camp activities start at 9 am and end at 4 pm.
  • Routine: Each camp and camper group will have a unique routine specific to their facility and amenities.

  • 9 to 10 am: Welcome, group activities
  • 10 to 10:30 am: Snack and water break
  • 10:30 to 12 pm: Games and/or crafts
  • 12 to 12:45 pm: Lunch
  • 12:45 to 2:15 pm: Swim
  • 2:15 to 2:45 pm: Snack and water break
  • 2:45 to 4 pm: Games and/or crafts
  • 4 to 5 pm: Free play, picked up from camp

Trip day
Each week of camp will have a planned trip to an exciting local attraction. Please arrive on time to camp on trip days as the bus will leave promptly at 9 am. Campers will also be provided with a t-shirt so that they are easily recognizable on off-site trip days. Campers will be required to wear their shirt on trip day and are able to keep the shirt as a memory of their camp experience. Please note: trip locations are subject to change and trip dates may change or be cancelled due to inclement weather.

The City of Hamilton is excited to offer youth programs this summer! All of the youth programs involve a skill component for youth to build confidence in a desired area. Experience new challenges, develop the skills and knowledge to take on new opportunities, including future employment and other recreational pursuits. Each day will also involve time for swimming and social activities with peers.

  • Fee: Varies, see individual camps below
  • Hours: Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. Organized camp activities start at 9 am and end at 4 pm.

Weekly camp themes include:

Creative Energy Camp - $191.76 per week
Designed for youth who are interested in artistic and creative pursuits. From script writing and storyboarding to acting and editing, each week brings a new creative energy to camp life. Camp week will also include time for open swim, games and social activities with peers.

Ultimate Sport and Wellness Camp - $139 per week or $111.20 (week 1)
Designed for youth who are interested in being active with peers. Youth will have the opportunity to choose between a variety of sport, fitness, and wellness sessions each day of program, as well as have time for open swim and social activities with peers. Examples of activity options planned include: volleyball, basketball, ultimate frisbee, inner tube water polo, soccer, zumba, yoga and nutrition seminars.

Cooking Camp - $191.76 per week 
This youth camp is designed for campers who are interested in cooking, getting comfortable in the kitchen and are aspiring foodies! Participants will learn to identify and select healthy foods, understand how to prepare foods using good sanitary practices, be safe in the kitchen and lots more. Recipe reading and measuring will be introduced. Each participant will receive a class cookbook at the end of each week. Camp week will also include time for open swim, games and social activities with peers.

Leadership Camp 
The Leadership Course is now being offered seasonally as a year round course. Please see Rec Connect for available courses and registration.

Teen Connections Camp is a summer recreation and socialization program for teens and young adults who have special needs or a disability. Participants can engage, recreate and form connections with other teens that have aged out of youth camp programs. This camp is led by dedicated program staff that supervise weekly activities and assist with age-appropriate games, sports, hobbies, social activities and swimming.

  • Fee: $139 per week or $111.20 (week 1). Participants can register for a maximum of two weeks, with the possibility of additional weeks based on availability.
  • Hours: Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.
In general, a typical day at camp will look like this:
  • 8:30 to 9 am: Arrival at camp
  • 9 to 10 am: Introductions, group team building activities
  • 10 to 10:30 am: Snack and water break
  • 10:30 to 11:30 am: Participant choice (active sport in gym or creative activities in room)
  • 11:30 am to 1:30 pm: Neighbourhood walk
  • 1:30 to 3:30 pm: Change for swim, swim time
  • 3:30 to 4 pm: Snack and water break
  • 4 to 4:30 pm: Pick up and goodbyes

Support staff are available 40 hours a week, 8 hours per day. Parents can request daily program hours of 8 am to 4 pm, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm or 9 am to 5 pm.

  5. Return with payment directly to the contact information below. If the camper is coming with their own support person or epi-pen, additional forms will be required.

Spaces are limited. Families are encouraged to return their forms to reserve their spaces as soon as possible.

Meeting the needs of the individual so all kids can play.
The Support Program is available for campers with disabilities or special needs who require additional support in order to integrate and participate in Camp Kidaca and Youth programs. Support staff encourage participation, while maintaining safety and care in a fun and stimulating environment!

Camp support options

City supplied support staff are available and provided at no additional cost for families! Due to high demand; registration is limited to two weeks per participant (registration in the Camp Kidaca program still required).

Additional support includes:

  • increased supervision by a trained, support worker dedicated to the care and safety of the camper at all times
  • assistance with bathroom, changing and eating
  • adaptation of camp programs for all participants
  • facilitation and encouragement of friendships and appropriate social interaction
  • opportunity to see the camp facility and meet the staff before the summer begins

Support staff are available 40 hours a week, 8 hours per day. Parents can request daily program hours of 8 am to 4 pm, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm or 9 am to 5 pm.

You may provide your own support person. We welcome support persons who assist participants with a disability or special needs. Support persons are hired or chosen by the participant to provide assistance throughout the camp day. There are no fees charged for support persons (registration in the Camp Kidaca program still required).

Prior to the camp start date, the parent/guardian and the support person must review and sign the External Support Person Guidelines. To ensure the safety and positive experience for all participants, we ask that support persons adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Support persons should have the maturity and knowledge to make decisions and sound judgment relating to the participant’s wellbeing and care.
  • Support persons may not leave the program/program area with the participant unless permission is received from the main contact.
  • Support persons will provide the camp counsellor with suggestions and input for adapted/ modified programming.

How to register

Registrations for camp are accepted and processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Online

Online registration starts at 7 am on Monday, March 20, 2017. Be sure to have your Family PIN and Client ID numbers ready. These are available by contacting your local recreation centre or visiting RecConnect.

Drop off

Hand in a registration forms with payment on or before facility closing on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at your local recreation centre. Staff will begin to process drop off registrations during registration on Monday, March 20, 2017 starting at 7am.

Walk in

Visit your local recreation centre starting Monday, March 20, 2017 after 9 am.

Payment policies

Individuals wishing to use post-dated cheques, may do so under the following policy:

  • The first week attending camp must be paid in full at the time of registration.
  • Additional weeks can be paid by post-dated cheque using only these two dates:
    • Additional weeks of camp operating in July must be paid for on May 26, 2017.
    • Additional weeks of camp operating in August must be paid for on June 24, 2017.

Refund policy

  • Refund requests can be made at any location or by calling Summer Hotline at 905-546-2424 ext. 3256.  A refund will be issued if notification is received five business days prior to the beginning of the program.
  • After that time and up to the end of the first day a prorated refund will be received deducting one day. Refund requests received after the first day require manager approval.
  • No refunds will be considered after the halfway point of the program. In the event of a refund request less than five days due to unforeseen circumstances, please call 905-546-2424 ext. 3256
