Parenting Groups in Hamilton

Healthy Growth and Development Services
Healthy Growth and Development Program services that remain closed during the COVID-19 pandemic 
include parenting sessions (i.e., Parenting With Love, Triple P), in-class prenatal sessions, Car Seat Clinics, Check-it Out drop ins, and in-person Welcome Baby prenatal nutrition groups (Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program - CPNP).

Healthy Growth and Development Program services that are open include:
Health Connections phone line (905-546-3550)
is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. We help expecting families and families that have children 0-6 years of age. You can learn and ask questions about: breastfeeding, child safety, growth and development, healthy eating, positive parenting, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, preparing for a healthy pregnancy and other programs and services in Hamilton.

Public Health Services’ phone and virtual breastfeeding support can be accessed by calling the Health Connections phone line at 905-546-3550. 

Free online Prenatal Classes to learn more about pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and newborn care in an interactive way. To register, visit www.hamilton.ca/prenatal and select Online Prenatal Program, call 905-546-2424 Ext 3591 or email [email protected].

Welcome Baby prenatal nutrition groups (Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program - CPNP) are accepting new participants who are pregnant and looking for extra support. Currently we are offering phone support and mailing resources while in-person groups are closed. The City of Hamilton offers the following parenting groups:

  • Parenting with LOVE for parents with children under age six
  • Group Triple P for parents of children ages two to six
  • Triple P Discussion Groups for parents of children ages two to six

Parenting with LOVE

Parenting with LOVE is a group for parents of children six years and under. Parents share ideas and discuss concerns about parenting.

The group is open to parents who are:

  • involved with either the Children’s Aid Society of Hamilton or the Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Hamilton 
  • recommended to take a parenting course

Program consists of:

  • Two hour sessions for eight weeks
  • Bus tickets to get to the group and return home
  • Certificate of participation at the end of the program

Parenting with LOVE groups run for eight weeks and each session is two hours long. Sessions are free, but you must register to attend. Various dates, times and locations available. Please call Health Connections at  905-546-3550 for more information and to register.

Group Triple P

 is for parents of children two to six years age. Parents share ideas and discuss concerns about parenting.

Topics include:

  • How to build a positive relationship with your child
  • Ways to help your child behave well
  • Responding to challenging behaviour

Program consists of:

  • Six weeks of two-hour group sessions and three weeks of 20 minute phone calls
  • Bus tickets to get to the group and return home
  • Certificate of participation at the end of the program

Group Triple P includes six two-hour group sessions and three 20 minute phone calls over nine weeks. Sessions are free, but you must register to attend. Please call Health Connections at  905-546-3550 for more information and to register.

Triple P Discussion Groups

Groups are for parents of children two to six years of age who want to learn about specific topics. Parents share ideas and discuss concerns about parenting.

Discussion Groups include:

  • Dealing with Challenging Behaviours
  • Managing Fighting and Aggression 

Program consists of:

  • Two hour group sessions 
  • Bus tickets to get to the group and return home

Discussion Groups are two hours long. Sessions are free, but you must register to attend. Please call Health Connections at  905-546-3550 for more information and to register.
