Breast Cancer Screening
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer for women in Ontario. The screening test for breast cancer is a mammogram, an x-ray of the breast.
Mammograms can find breast cancer when it is still very small or just beginning, years before a person may feel it or feel sick. Breast cancer is easier to treat when it is found early.
Who should be screened for breast cancer
Women age 50 to 74 should have a mammogram every two years to check for breast cancer.
Women can talk to their doctor to see if they are at high risk for breast cancer. Women at high risk for breast cancer usually have other family members that have or had breast cancer.
