What's Happening for Child Care

Hamilton Reopens - A roadmap to our new reality

Available Now

Licensed Home Child Care

Licensed home child care is provided in the home of a child care provider that is contracted with one of the three licensed home child care agencies.  Licensed home child care has continued to be available during this time. For more information, visit www.hamilton.ca/findchildcare

Licensed Child Care Centres

The City and Hamilton Public Health Services are working with local licensed child care centre operators to ensure a gradual and safe reopening of these centres in the city.

All centres will be required to follow strict health protocols and meet additional requirements to safely reopen. The new protocols include enhanced cleaning, mandatory screening of staff and children, mandatory staff training, limitations on visitors, and ensuring an updated COVID-19 response plan is in place. The centres must also complete and pass a Public Health inspection prior to reopening. Effective September 1, 2020, all licensed child care centre operators will be able to move from the current cohort size of 15 children to their full licensed capacity.

Licensed Before and After School Programs

The City and Hamilton Public Health Services are working with local licensed before and after school programs (BASPs) to ensure a safe reopening in September. All BASPs will be required to follow strict health protocols and meet additional requirements to safely reopen. The new protocols include enhanced cleaning, mandatory screening of staff and children, mandatory staff training, limitations on visitors, staff PPE, and ensuring an updated COVID-19 response plan is in place. Children in grades 4 and above will be required to wear a face covering. The City is working closely with BASPs and local school boards to ensure a smooth transition between BASPs and schools.
