Transportation for Grocery Shopping

See below for places that provide transportation to purchase groceries or grocery delivery for people with limited mobility in Hamilton.

Ancaster Community Services offers a bi-weekly transportation program in partnership with DARTS to Fortinos and Walmart. You must call Wednesday before noon for a ride the following Friday.

  • parts of Dundas based on availability

Banyan Community Services Grocer-Ease Program is a grocery delivery service in Hamilton that services:

  • Ancaster
  • Dundas
  • Binbrook
  • Stoney Creek

The program is for seniors or people with a disability. 

Cost:

  • $9 for orders under $100
  • $2.50 for each additional $25

Hours:

  • Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
  • one day's notice is required

The Flamborough Red Cross Volunteer Assisted Transportation program is a group of volunteers who use their own vehicle to take you shopping. Volunteers take people on social assistance to the food bank in Carlisle.

This Volunteer Assisted Transportation program is for seniors or people with a disability. Volunteers provide transportation to a store of your choice. It is for people living in Mount Hope and Binbrook.

Cost: $8.50 to $21 per round trip

The Dundas Community Services Assisted Transportation Program provides transportation to grocery shopping in Dundas. This program is for seniors or people with a disability living in Dundas. You must call one week in advance to use this program.

Cost: $6.50 to $16.50

VON Hamilton's Shopping by Bus program uses an HSR bus to take you to Fortinos or No Frills. This free program includes a volunteer who will help you at the store. Confirm your pick up and drop off times with the superintendent at the site.

An HSR charter bus takes seniors to local grocery stores near their apartment building. In this program, the grocery store pays for the bus. 

This service is offered at the following apartments:

  • Macassa Lodge

This service is offered in the following areas:

  • Mohawk and Wellington
  • Olde Stoney Creek
  • Upper Gage
  • East Hamilton
  • Mohawk and Magnolia

Hours: the bus runs weekly, biweekly and monthly to various stored.
