Water Hauler Licence

The City of Hamilton provides potable drinking water at water fill stations for bulk purchase by water hauler companies.

Two water fill stations for bulk purchase of water are located at:

  • 70 Dartnall Road, Hamilton
  • 1422 Cormorant Road, Ancaster

To buy water from our bulk water filling stations, you need a water hauler licence and a pre-loaded cash card (Smart Card) issued by the City.

Water hauler companies can purchase a water hauler licence Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm at:

Licence expiry: The licence is valid for the calendar year in which it was purchased.

License Fee: $227.85 (HST is not applicable)

Buy bulk water

Two Smart Cards will be issued with your license. The Smart Cards can be pre-loaded with any dollar amount at the Hamilton Water Customer Service office. We do not currently have an online purchase option.

There are approximately 220 gallons in a cubic meter of water. The volume is displayed at the stations in gallons, but the smart cards are programmed in dollar amounts. The 2017 charge for a cubic meter of bulk water is $2.15. The office accepts cash, cheque, debit and credit cards for payment of licence fees and smart card funds.
