Building a Vision for Zero Fatalities or Serious Injuries on Hamilton’s Streets
HAMILTON, ON – November 17, 2016 – Next Tuesday, the City of Hamilton is hosting a special workshop to discuss road safety in Hamilton.
Last year, 14 people were killed on city streets. The workshop will discuss the Vision Zero approach to road safety and ask residents, business owners, City staff and other stakeholders to help build a vision for zero fatalities or serious injuries on Hamilton’s streets.
Vision Zero is a Swedish approach to road safety thinking. Using improved education, enforcement, engineering, evaluation and engagement, Vision Zero makes human error part of the road safety equation. Vision Zero is not about reducing accidents, it’s about road safety reform wherein no loss of life or serious injury is acceptable.
Many other cities around the world have adopted or are considering the Vision Zero approach to road safety, and this workshop will help to assess the feasibility and interest in implementing it in Hamilton.
The City is asking interested residents to attend the workshop on Tuesday, November 22 to discuss and provide input on how we should safeguard our roadways for pedestrians, cyclists, transit users, motorists, drivers of commercial vehicles, and others.
The workshop is being held at the Hamilton Convention Centre from 7 to 9 pm. A drop-in open house session will be open 5 to 9 pm.
Please help us to ensure Hamilton is the safest place to raise a child and age successfully.
