City of Hamilton aims to vaccinate 500 pets at Low Cost Rabies Vaccine Clinic
Hamilton, ON - September 15, 2016 - City of Hamilton Public Health Services and Animal Services will be hosting a low cost rabies vaccine clinic on Saturday, September 17 at Gage Park. Cats and Dogs can be vaccinated against rabies for $25 each, cash only. The City of Hamilton’s goal is to vaccinate up to 500 pets on Saturday, on a first come, first served basis.
This is the first City-sponsored low cost rabies clinic in recent history. The low cost clinic was made possible with the support of more than ten local veterinarians, registered veterinary technician volunteers and various companies that have donated to the clinic.
This clinic was organized in response to raccoon rabies being established in the wild animal population in Hamilton. The City encourages pet owners to ensure their cats and dogs over three months of age are immunized against rabies, not just because it is the law, but because it protects the entire family from rabies.
Additional services available for dogs and cats include rabies microchipping, cat registration, and the sale of dog licences for an additional fee. The City of Hamilton’s Responsible Animal Ownership By-law requires that all dog owners obtain an annual dog licence before the dog is three months of age. Among several benefits, licensing assures Animal Services officers that an animal is vaccinated for their own safety and the safety of the community.
