About 20,000 Homes
On February 21st and 22nd 2016, the City of Hamilton will take part in a coordinated effort to measure homelessness across Canada - the 20,000 Point-In-Time (PiT) Count. Recommended by the Federal Government, this is the first time communities across the country will participate in a Point-in-Time Count, using the same approach. The City of Hamilton hopes to do more than just count people experiencing homelessness. A short survey will be conducted to assess people’s needs, and identify specific supports to help them find and maintain permanent homes.
This PiT Count builds on the 20,000 Homes Campaign, which is a national movement by the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness (CAEH). Communities across Canada are working together towards the goal of housing 20,000 people who are experiencing persistent homelessness by July 1, 2018.
During the surveying, teams led by professional service staff and community volunteers will systematically canvas the community and complete a short survey with people experiencing homelessness.
