Driving to School
Drive to Five
The congestion around our schools at arrival and dismissal makes it very unsafe for students. We all want our children to be safe at school. But traffic congestion makes it harder to see students and the air to be bad for our lungs. There is something simple we can do to keep cars away from the school, it is called ‘Drive to Five.’
When walking all the way to school is not possible, please try parking away from the school and walk with your child the rest of the way. We recognize that not all families can participate in the same way. For some, parking closer to school is important and we support those choices too.
By having fewer cars at the school, we can improve the safety and air quality around the school and give children some physical activity to get them ready for the day. Children’s safety is everyone’s responsibility. Let’s work together and keep our neighbourhoods safe!
Special Enforcement Areas
The Special Enforcement Area around schools is designed to increase parking regulation compliance and improve children’s safety by increasing fines for parking violations.
- Special Enforcement Areas (SEA) around schools are in effect 7 am. to 5 pm., Monday to Friday, September 1 to June 30.
- The parking fine for any parking infraction is increased to $250.
- Special Enforcement Areas are a collaboration between Sustainable Mobility, Public Health, and Parking Operations.
