Thank you for your interest in adopting a pet from Hamilton Animal Services.

The health and safety of our community, staff and pets is our highest priority. We have implemented new procedures to allow animals to be adopted into new homes with the least person-to-person contact we can safely provide.

How to Adopt

If you are interested in adopting a pet from Hamilton Animal Services, please complete this online application.

Applications are only considered for animals in the adoption program and listed on our Petfinder profile. Applications for a generic dog or cat will not be considered.

Ensure your application states the name and/or ID of the animal you are interested in adopting.

Cats $210 HST included

Fee includes:

Spay or Neuter
Age Appropriate vaccinations
Rabies vaccination
Feline Felv/FIV testing
Flea & De-worming treatment
Microchip identification
Lifetime Cat Registration

Dogs $350 HST included

Fee includes:

Spay or Neuter
Age Appropriate vaccinations
Rabies vaccination
Heartworm Tested
Flea & De-worming treatment
Microchip identification
First year City Dog Licence

The Adoption Process

If you are interested in adopting a shelter pet, you will need to complete an application.
Our Adoption Team will review your application and schedule an adoption interview by phone or email.
If your application is a strong match, we will arrange a contactless meet and greet of the pet by video.
Completion of adoption paperwork and payment will be done digitally.
Our team will set an appointment for you to pick up your new pet using contactless pick up at the shelter. Team members will be present, maintaining physical distancing, to help see the pet off with their new family and answer any questions.
Due to the concerns around COVID-19 interested adopters will not be permitted to interact with the pets prior to adoption (except for dogs).
Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. This allows our Adoption Staff to spend quality time with each potential home to ensure the most successful matches are made between the animals and their new families.

Any personal information collected by the Animal Adoption application will be used for the purposes related to this Hamilton Animal Service’s Animal Adoption Program. By providing your email address, you are consenting to receiving emails from the City of Hamilton and/or their agents/contractors for Hamilton Animal Services related matters. Information collected for this initiative may be stored on servers located in Canada and the United States and may be subject to Canadian and/or American laws.
