Municipal Parking Garage Rehabilitation & Summers Lane Reconstruction
The City of Hamilton is working on rehabilitation and reconstruction work at the Convention Centre Parking Garage and Summers Lane. Summers Lane rehabilitation and redesign is to provide a safer, more comfortable, and more accessible experience for pedestrians. Rehabilitation and reconstruction work aims to enhance user experience and safety while extending the service life of the structure.
Convention Centre Parking Garage Structural Rehabilitation & Summers Lane Reconstruction
Project Details
Scope of work includes:
- Structural rehabilitation and concrete repairs including podium slab, soffit, columns and walls. These works will include reinforcing steel repairs.
- Waterproofing to address deterioration and deficiencies on Summers Lane and lower levels. This work will include drainage upgrades and improved stormwater management measures.
- Construction of new sidewalks and the installation of raised pedestrian crossings.
- Removal and replacement of asphalt pavement as part of the roadway works.
- Conversion of one-hour parking to drop-off/pick-up laybys along the Summers Lane corridor to enhance traffic flow.
Summers Lane from Main Street West to parking garage exit (level P1) and corresponding areas on level P3 and P5
Estimated Construction Dates: September 2025 to March 2026
All dates are tentative and subject to change.
Scope of work will include:
- Structural rehabilitation and waterproofing of suspended slab.
- New drainage system, trench drain and catch basins.
- Road resurfacing.
- New raised pedestrian crossings.
- New raised sidewalks including replacement of sidewalk unit pavers.
- New stairs and handrails.
- Upgraded sidewalks at Main Street West.
- Conversion of one-hour parking on Summers Lane to no parking.
Closure and alternative routes will include:
- Summers Lane closed to vehicle access from Main Street West to King Street West.
- Parking garage entrance on Summers Lane will be closed. Detour for access to parking garage entrance via MacNab Street South to King Street West entrance.
- Parking garage entrance on King Street West will be open.
- Parking garage exit on level P1 to Summers Lane will be open.
- Parking garage exit on level P3 to MacNab Street South will be closed.
- Alternative pedestrian access from Main Street West to King Street West through level P1 and Summers Lane.

- Summers Lane closed to through vehicle access from Main Street West to King Street West.
- Parking garage entrance on Summers Lane will be open.
- Parking garage entrance on King Street West will be open.
- Parking garage exit on level P1 to Summers Lane will be closed.
- Parking garage exit on level P3 to MacNab Street South will be open.
- Alternative pedestrian access from Main Street West to King Street West through level P1 and Summers Lane.
